sometimes smart people do dumb things

Yep, this could have been the one lined caption to my weekend. Sometimes smart people do dumb things. Dumb thing number one is that hubby and I accidentally became landlords three years ago. It's a long story, but involved a work transfer from Indiana to Florida, a house in Indiana that wouldn't sell and a baby boy that was going to be born anytime. So, we reluctantly with fingers crossed became landlords.

Fast forward three years and we still have a house that won't sell. It went back on the market this past Monday. Hopefully, this story will come to a tidy close in the next month or two or three. If not, the story will get interesting again.... We try to focus on the tidy version.

There was a tremendous amount of cleaning and painting to do this weekend. We currently live 4 + hours from the house so getting there is a bit of an ordeal and this was the only weekend we really wanted to work on it. Getting listed ASAP was essential!

It seemed like there was so much work to do, however I know from hearing stories from my dad and my father-in -law, the damage was minimal and I should have been thankful.

Yikes.
It was good to see this little wood burning on the back porch.

And to see that the little playhouse I built for Bee was in tack. I'll have to share pictures of that another time.

Here is another dumb thing. See these stairs and the tall walls. I decided to paint here. The area along the banister was filthy. Apparently people dragged their hands along both walls as they walked up the stairs. So I painted what was supposed to be the same color.

Wasn't the same color. I am only so tall. I realized pretty quickly this was dumb. Thankfully a tall friend with a fancy stair ladder showed up and saved the day on this one.

The carpets were pretty much like this, which frustrated me to no end. We were crazy about cleaning up (and really not making) messes on carpet. In fact, my water broke in this same room about 5 years ago. It was the middle of the night and I was quite in labor. I scrubbed the spot out before heading off to the hospital because I didn't want any stains. Had I known it was ok to spill your coffee and cokes on the carpet and walls and leave it, I just might have done that.

All of this hard work will wear a kid out! Look closely and you'll find two nappers in this picture!

The good news is that it's done, the best news is that it's listed. I can't wait to share very soon about how it sold so quickly. We are doing lots of praying. Should you be looking for a lovely home (with now clean carpet and freshly painted walls) on the south side of Indianapolis Indiana, let me know. I'd love to share more pictures with you . Good ones, no pop stained carpets.

  1. I hope your house sells soon.

We recently moved and became landlords for the first time. We are questioning our judgement that we allowed a family with eight children move into our lovely home. I don't even think I want to know how it looks by now.

  2. Let me know if you need me to run over and do anything. I am closer than you. I have been praying for three years that it would sell, I may have to pull in others for "prayer help"

    Love Always,

    Dad
